2020 Upper Decks Park Boards: Burton Free Thinker

With Upper Decks, SNOWBOARDER is providing our readers with insights, images, and other details culled from putting a handful of new terrain park performers through their paces for five days of jibbing, jumping, and carving amongst the freestyle features of Aspen Snowmass, Colorado. Providing the action and impression of the top park boards in stores this fall are former Forum pro and prolific video part protagonist, Eddie Wall and 2019 MS Superpark Standout Emma Crosby alongside the SNOWBOARDER Editorial Staff. This is SNOWBOARDER's take on the Burton Free Thinker.

While we can only aspire to the style, smoothness, and switch methods that Danny Davis possesses, Burton has provided us with the next best—and most realistic—option in our pursuit of freestyle fluidity: ride the board that Danny rides. The Free Thinker was designed to the Michigan native’s specs: a regular camber true twin, made for snappy responsiveness in the park, pipe, and whatever naturally playful terrain is found elsewhere on the mountain. Burton’s Squeezebox tech underfoot adds maneuverability and pop to the Free Thinker, while 45 Degree Carbon Highlights reduce weight and fine tune the torsional flex for a hard-charging ride. A bonus for midwinter hardpack days is the Frostbite edges, which extend slightly out beneath the bindings for extra hold whenever conditions dictate. At its metaphorical core, the Free Thinker is designed for total terrain freedom, so wherever your stock run takes you, you’ll have a good time.
